Report Unified Volleyball Scores (home team reports)

General Information

  • Unified Volleyball is played 6v6 with each team having 3 Unified Athletes (students with IDD) and 3 Unified Partners (students without IDD) on the court at all times.
  • A match will consist of the best 2 out of 3 sets. The first 2 sets are played to 25 points.  The third set (if necessary) is to 15 points. 

Pre-Match

  • Coaches must submit their team’s lineup to the scorer’s table for the first 2 sets 10 minutes prior to the first set.
  • Lineup sheets for the third set must be submitted immediately after set 2 if a third set is necessary to determine the winner of the match. 
  • There will be a coin flip at the start of each match.  The winner of the flip may choose: 1) first serve, 2) to receive the first serve or 3) the choice of court for the first game.
  • If the deciding third set is necessary, a coin flip shall determine serve.

Match Play

  • For all divisions:
    • A match will consist of the best 2 out of 3 sets. The first 2 sets are played to 25 points.  
    • The third set (if necessary) is to 15 points. 
  • There is NO time limit during play. 
  • A team must win a set by two points and there is NO CAP on scoring.
  • The team who wins 2 sets will be declared the winner of the match.
  • Each team is allowed two, 30 second time outs during each set.
  • Substitutions must take place between the net and the 10 foot line of the court.
  • Substitutions must occur under the direction of the 2nd referee.
  • Athletes must substitute for Athletes, Partners must substitute for Partners.

Forfeits

  • If a team arrives more than 15 minutes after the scheduled start of their match, the first game will be declared a forfeit.
  • If a team arrives more than 20 minutes after the scheduled start of the match, the match will be declared a forfeit.
  • If a team forfeits a Match, it will be considered a 25-0 win for the opposing team.

Court Protocol

  • At the end of game one -Following the blowing of the whistle indicating the end of the game, players should line up on the end line of their playing areas. When both teams are in position and the second referee has verified that the winning point has been recorded, the first referee has verified that the winning point has been recorded, the first referee will blow the whistle and the teams shall report immediately back to their benches. Teams should then change benches moving to the other side of the net.
  • At the end of game two, if a third game is to be played -Follow the above procedure.
  • At the conclusion of the match -Following the whistle indicating the end of a match, all players and coaches will line up on the end line of their respective playing areas. When both teams are in position and the second referee has verified that the winning point has been recorded by the scorekeeper, the first referee will blow a whistle and motion for teams to form a single line and proceed to the center of the court to shake hands with opponents.

Coaching Protocol

  • Only the Head Coach is allowed to address the 1st and 2nd referees.
  • Only the Head Coach may stand to coach his/her team.
  • The Head Coach MUST remain in the bench area.
  • All other team personnel including the assistant coaches must remain seated on the bench during the course of the game/match.
  • No spectators shall be allowed in the bench area during the course of the game/match.
